Turning another page in its advocacy, the UC Peer Facilitators continued promoting literacy and environmental awareness through Project R.E.A.D. x Peers for the Environment at Camp 7 Elementary School, Baguio City, on June 10, 2026. Carrying the theme, “Minds in Bloom: Bridging Early Literacy and Environmental Advocacy for a Greener Tomorrow,” the initiative aimed to strengthen Grade 1 pupils’ literacy skills while fostering environmental responsibility through interactive storytelling and engaging activities.

     Through the stories Dog Going to School, Ducky Duck and Her Friends, and Tommy and the Three Trash Bins, the pupils participated in literacy-based activities that enhanced their reading, vocabulary, comprehension, creativity, and understanding of proper waste segregation. Activities such as Word Puzzle, Matching-It-Up, and waste-sorting exercises encouraged active participation while reinforcing the lessons from each story.

     Despite the challenges encountered, the program was a success, bringing joy to the children while imparting valuable lessons. In the afternoon, the Peer Facilitators, together with their advisers, conducted a clean-up drive within the school vicinity. The initiative aimed to promote environmental responsibility while fostering a cleaner, safer, and more conducive learning environment for students.

     “For the children, we truly hope it encourages them more to learn about writing and reading, enjoy stories, and develop their comprehension and reading abilities. And for the peers, I hope they learn how important and meaningful our projects are, big or small. I hope they learned patience and teamwork” PF Karinn, the project leader said. The program concluded with the distribution of small tokens to the pupils, capping a meaningful day of learning, service, and community engagement.
