Taste of Creativity and Belonging: Creating Sweet Memories Through Connection

Sometimes, the sweetest moments are not found in the cupcakes we decorate, but in the connections we create.”

For students whose parents are working abroad, special occasions and everyday milestones are often experienced from a distance. While technology allows families to stay connected, it can never fully replace the warmth of spending meaningful moments together. Recognizing the emotional challenges faced by these students, the Guidance Services and Wellness Center (GSWC), through its SINAG Support Group, organized “Taste of Creativity and Belonging,” a cupcake decorating workshop designed to foster creativity, emotional expression, and a sense of belonging.

Held on July 3, 2026, the activity gathered students for a fun and therapeutic experience facilitated by GSWC personnel together with SINAG advisers Ma’am Aira Verceles and Ma’am Jezereel Donna Tandoc. To ensure that every participant had the opportunity to fully engage in the workshop, the activity was conducted in two sessions—one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

The workshop began with a hands-on buttercream frosting demonstration, where participants learned basic decorating techniques while working together in a fun and supportive environment. Through shared conversations, creativity, and collaboration, students expressed themselves and built meaningful connections. More than a baking activity, the workshop fostered a sense of belonging, reminding participants that despite the distance from their parents, they are supported by a caring and compassionate community.

As the activity concluded, participants proudly brought home not only their beautifully decorated cupcakes but also treasured memories, renewed confidence, and meaningful friendships. They discovered that engaging in creative activities can be an effective way to relieve stress, express emotions, and strengthen self-esteem while building positive relationships with others.

Through initiatives like Taste of Creativity and Belonging, the Guidance Services and Wellness Center continues to uphold its commitment to promoting students’ mental health and holistic well-being. By creating safe spaces where creativity, connection, and compassion flourish, GSWC empowers students to navigate life’s challenges with resilience while reminding them that they are never alone.

Indeed, the sweetest outcome of the activity was not simply the cupcakes—it was the sense of belonging, hope, and support that every participant carried home.
