On Professional Readiness: Administration of Emotional Intelligence Assessment for the College of Teacher Education Interns

It is the mission of the Guidance Services and Wellness Center (GSWC) to guide students through the complex decision-making processes involved in career planning. These include understanding their strengths and values, which are essential foundations in shaping their career paths. In line with these, the GSWC promotes Project RISE: Readiness, Insight, Skills and Empowerment for Career Success to our students. Starting off with the College of Teacher Education intern students, the GSWC administered the Work Profile Questionnaire Emotional Intelligence (WPQei) to a total of 125 students. It was facilitated on September 26, 2025, from 7:45 AM to 8:30 AM. This initiative was carried out as part of their preparation for internship under the course Field Study 100: Observation and Participation.

The WPQei is an assessment that measures emotional intelligence across five key dimensions: Self-Awareness, Managing Emotions, Motivation, Empathy, and Social Skills. Its primary purpose is to provide students with meaningful insight into their emotional and personality competencies, and areas that may require focused intervention. By identifying their strengths and areas for improvement, students are better equipped to enter their practicum with greater self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, and a more intentional approach to personal and professional growth.

Through the joint effort of the Guidance Services and Wellness Center, the administration was successfully carried out. Despite few minor disruptions during the administration, the students remained cooperative and were able to complete the assessment within the scheduled time frame. The results of the WPQei are expected to offer valuable guidance that students can use in developing effective teaching practices as they move toward their internship experience.
