As part of the continuous effort to contribute to the holistic development of student assistants, the Student Development and Welfare Center (SDWC) spearheaded the activity entitled “Student Assistants’ Growth Hub” where four (4) different workshops were simultaneously conducted on October 28-29, 2025.
Mr. Cristian Adam D. Salanga and Ms. Charmaine M. Factor, Guidance Associates from the Guidance Services and Wellness Center (GSWC), focused on the session on Peer Support and Mental Health. This session aims to provide Student Assistants with practical tools to manage stress and promote well-being while fulfilling their academic and work responsibilities.

The importance of mental health continues to take center stage as students, educators, and communities work together to promote wellness and emotional balance. The presentation “Mind Matters: Understanding Mental Health and Well-Being” discussed by Ms. Charmaine M. Factor, highlighted that mental health affects how we think, feel, and act—and that recognizing early warning signs can help prevent more serious problems from developing. The discussion is followed by an activity entitled “For the Love of Me! Because Self-Care is Always Worth the Bid!” which reminded participants that self-care is not a luxury, but a necessity. Taking proactive steps toward self-care—can make a vital difference in one’s overall well-being.
The second part of the session focuses on the power of connection and understanding among peers which has become more important than ever. This was the key message of the presentation “Growing Strong: Building a Culture of Kinship and Support” delivered by Mr. Cristian Adam D. Salanga, which emphasized the role of peer support in promoting emotional wellness and resilience. Building a culture of kinship starts with simple acts of listening, showing empathy, and reaching out. Whether through small gestures of care or organized peer groups, everyone can contribute to a community that values mental wellness and connection.

Mental health and peer support go hand in hand. While mental well-being begins with self-awareness and self-care, it flourishes within a community of understanding peers. By reaching out, listening, and standing together, we build not only stronger individuals but a stronger, more compassionate society.
