Creating Safe Spaces: The Guidance and Counseling Office Leads Mental Health Awareness Session for Grade 5 Students

On March 22, 2025, the Guidance and Counseling Office (GCO) of the University of the Cordilleras proudly took part in “Safe Space: An Interactive Mental Health Awareness Seminar,” an initiative organized by the third-year Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting students. The seminar, held at Camp 7 Elementary School, aimed to educate and empower Grade 5 students to recognize, prevent, and cope with bullying while nurturing a supportive environment for mental well-being.

Representing the GCO, Ms. Stephanie Joy Pogongan and Mr. Cristian Adam Salanga led the interactive sessions designed to promote emotional awareness, safety, and community support among young learners with an emphasis on how these experiences can deeply affect a child’s mental health and development.

The program concluded with a processing session, allowing students to reflect on their experiences, express their realizations, and share their learnings with their classmates. This reflection activity helped instill confidence and emphasized the importance of creating inclusive, compassionate environments where everyone feels heard and supported.

The GCO extends its gratitude to the organizers for the invitation and recognizes the significance of such early interventions in promoting mental health literacy and proactive bullying prevention. As always, the office remains committed to fostering safe spaces with one meaningful interaction at a time.
